Ultimate Sales
My commitment to the convenience store industry runs deeper than business—it’s my passion, my family legacy, and my life’s work.
In 1994, I founded Ultimate Sales with a simple but radical idea: focus exclusively on food for the c-store channel. While competitors chased scale, we chose specialization. That focus reshaped the category and helped ignite the modern food-to-go movement across North America. Today, Ultimate connects award-winning brands with more than 140,000 convenience stores, driving growth for the nation’s top manufacturers through strategy, execution, and relentless follow-through.
After 25 years leading c-store foodservice, we’re evolving again—expanding our reach across all key categories, from snacks and candy to packaged beverages. This next chapter builds on decades of trust and partnership with retailers, distributors, and suppliers who know we deliver from concept to consumption.
C-stores aren’t a division of our business—they are our business.
At Ultimate, integrity, service, and excellence aren’t slogans—they’re standards. Our team contributes over 800 volunteer hours each year, living our belief that success means more when it gives something back.

Lonnie McQuirter, Director of Operations
36 Lyn Refuel Station
Lonnie McQuirter is the owner and operator of 36 Lyn Refuel Station, a small independent convenience and fuel retailer in South Minneapolis. Lonnie didn't inherit a playbook, he wrote one, turning a generic branded gas station into one of the most recognized independent retailers in the country. Lonnie has never waited for the industry to tell him what's next, from installing one of Minneapolis's first EV fast charging stations to running the store entirely on renewable energy since 2015.
36 Lyn is a three-time Inc. 5000 honoree and an NRF America's Retail Champion. The store carries a wide variety of locally sourced and better-for-you items, a deliberate commitment, not a marketing angle. McQuirter has been featured in *Kiplinger* and named to the Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal's Fast 50.
Lonnie's industry involvement runs deep, from the store level all the way to national policy. He serves on both the NACS Board of Directors and the Conexxus Board of Directors and holds the Vice Chairman role on NACS's Legislative Committee. He's recognized as a go-to voice for legislative advocacy representing the convenience channel. He chaired the Minnesota Retailers Association in 2018.
What Lonnie brings to SOVG is the perspective of an operator who has had to solve every problem himself: technology, energy, hiring, community relations, vendor negotiations, all of it without the safety net of a larger chain. His view is simple: small operators can't afford to be complacent, and the challenges facing independent c-stores are as much political and regulatory as they are operational.

His children's need for better educational opportunities prompted a move to Randburg, where his 3 child was born.
Entering the retail sector as a Bakery Manager at Hyperama Sandton, Joe quickly ascended to Specialty Food Manager. His ambition led him to a management training program that included an intensive two-year course akin to a mini MBA, culminating in a thorough 14-week retail overview with 17 challenging exams. Excelling in his studies, Joe graduated top of his class of 32, leading to a Buyer position at Hyperama's Head Office. He impressively grew his purchasing portfolio there from R1.5 million to over R100 million per month over six years.
In 1994, the he was appointed as Operations Manager at King Pie, a modestly sized franchise with 16 stores. Within three years, Joe ascended to the role of Managing Director as the brand expanded its presence to nearly 300 stores within South Africa and ventured globally with openings in Australia, New Zealand, Poland, and England.
Following King Pie's acquisition by Rebhold, subsequently renamed Mvelaphanda, the franchise met its profit targets ahead of schedule under Joe’s leadership. Simultaneously, sluggish growth and profitability issues at Royal Foods Services, another Rebhold subsidiary in Durban's contract catering sector, prompted shareholders to assign him to groom a new Managing Director for King Pie and oversee profitability and growth improvements at Royal Foods Services. Key to success was advancing the company's BEE rating and merging it with Sechaba Afrika. Joe’s efforts were instrumental in increasing annual turnover from R130 million to nearly R500 million over five years and reaching satisfactory profit margins. Cyril Ramaphosa, now President of South Africa, collaborated on this project.
While serving Royal Foods Services, they pursued an MBA from Wits University over two years and passed all courses but had to forgo the final paper due to a career transition.
In December 2004, Butterfield Bakery enticed Joe with an Operational Director role that included equity participation. Despite initial financial losses and challenging circumstances, his leadership led to a company turnaround. The goal was set by the primary shareholder to sell the company within three years at a value correlating with three to four years of pre-tax profits. This objective was met when Butterfield Bakery sold for more than triple its PBT after three years. After taking a two-month hiatus, Joe resumed his career at Fruit & Veg City in March 2008, taking on the role of Director for the FreshStop Brand, which initially included 14 stores. Since then, the brand has expanded to 330 franchised stores. The key goal was to develop and scale a robust business model designed to grow within the range of 300 to 400 stores throughout Southern Africa.
During Joe’s tenure with organisations such as Hyperama, King Pie, Royal Foods Services, and Butterfield, they actively participated in numerous professional development programs covering Marketing, Advertising, Sales, Project Management, Leadership, Emotional Intelligence, and Financial Management.

JP Patel. CEO
Hari 1 dba Fish River Food Mart
In 2000, the year of clunky Nokia phones and $1.50 gas, a guileless 18-year-old Jigar “JP” Patel left the comforts of his home in India to make a name for himself in America. Even at that young age, it was clear to those around him that JP had that certain spark that drew people to him.

Fast-forward to 2015, JP is now the co-founder and VP of SAASOA (Strategic Alliance of Affiliated Store Owners of America), the largest such association in the entire Southeast. In the last 7 years, SAASOA has successfully represented approximately 4500 stores owners. JP is also a recognized public speaker and specializes in leadership training and coaching and has successfully served a range of clients including corporate professionals, small business owners, and non-profit and for-profit organizations.
His drive to increase representation among minorities in the convenience store industry led to his association with NACS (National Association of Convenience Stores).
